It's April Fools Day, so more than likely, you've been pranked at least once today. Don't worry - we won't be pranking you. Instead, we're sharing a few fitness trends which seem like jokes, but they're not!
As a child, you might have spent many afternoons bouncing up and down on a trampoline with siblings, neighbors or flying solo. And as a child, you might have thought these glorious bouncy platforms were reserved for kids like you. However, that’s no longer the case. You might have noticed trampoline workouts are cropping up all over the place, and there’s good reason for that! According to the American Council on Exercise, bouncing on a mini trampoline for 20 minutes is just as good as going for a run - except more than likely, it’s MUCH more fun! Trampolining is defined as moderate-to-vigorous intensity exercise, in the same category as biking, playing football or basketball or ultimate frisbee!
Parkour is a movement activity which involves elements of climbing, acrobatics, and cross training techniques combined into one great workouts. This might look a little crazy, but doing parkour has a wide range of health benefits. Parkour is truly a full-body activity, stimulating all of the major muscle groups throughout the body. It activates your cardiovascular system and builds crazy-good core strength. While it seems overwhelming, this activity is truly all-levels. You can find free parkour workouts online or find a parkour gym near you!
For the coordinated ones out there, hula hooping can provide many physical benefits! The American Council on Exercise shared hula hooping can burn up to 400 calories an hour - the same range as an elliptical for that length of time. The focus of movement around the core area can be great to blast belly fat, tone the core and strengthen the low back. Grab a friend and attend a class near you or buy a hula hoop online for a great workout at home!
